Lutherans vs Episcopalians

One of the problems with being a Lutheran at an Episcopalian seminary is that when I make jokes about “pastors,” no one laughs. When I change the language to “priests,” then everyone laughs. It’s like a completely different world over here.

  1. On a more academic note, I highly recommend a book by Henry Eyster Jacobs, about the Reformation-era relations between Lutherans and Anglicans. It was controversial in its time.

(I also published an article in “Anglican & Episcopal History” on the shared liturgical heritage, which talks about the way that heritage was interpreted in the 19th century. Still relevant to understanding the bizarre relationship.)
